TEX- membrane in shoes, what is it about?

Not only, but especially with the winter coming, when choosing shoes, we must always think of a factor that we do not deal with so much during the remaining months - waterproof, water-resistant and water-repellent. Although these terms seem to be semantically identical, there are little differences in them, and if you want to choose really high quality and the right shoes as a customer, you should ask about those.

Just with the onset of changeable weather, when rain, wind, frost and snow alternate in any order, we all long for shoes that not only cover the feet, but also protect them from adverse effects. We don't want to have soaked shoes, frozen toes and hypothermic feet right away. In this context, TEX-membrane technologies are often used to prevent these winter-related inconveniences.

THE best known TEX-MEMBRANE

The most well-known registered TEX technology is, of course, GORE-TEX. In addition to it, however, other brands have adopted a patent for "breathing membranes". In our e-shop, e.g. in addition to GORE-TEX (represented by Ara), you will also meet J-TEX (M&G brand) or other TEX uppers (Rieker, Skechers, Caprice). What are TEX-shoes all about? Why do we need them?

First of all, the TEX- membrane can be waterproof. It is the absolute leader in protection against moisture. You will appreciate it in the mountains in trekking and sports shoes, in the city in snow shoes or simply when the weather changes so, that your shoes should be "waterproof".

We also encounter GORE-TEX technology in clothing in the form of waterproof windbreakers, vests, warmers. However, of course, we are especially interested in quality shoes. The key to success is the TEX- membrane, which is made up of billions of pores per square centimeter. Each of these pores is 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water. So humidity has no chance! However, the TEX membrane is also ingenious, because the pores mentioned, on the other hand, are 700 times larger than water vapor molecules. This allows for easy sweat escape. The material has sufficient breathability and your feet do get comfort.

The "water-repellent" membrane handles moisture similarly to waterproofing, but is not a 100% barrier to moisture entry. It is used in the production of sportswear, where protection against wind or occasional rainfall is needed, but there is more need for style and comfort, to which the manufacturers adapt.

But let's go back to shoes with GORE-TEX or J-TEX, etc.

The TEX- membrane is an ultra-thin layer between the outer material of the shoe and the leather or wool lining inside it. The membrane is water-repellent on the outside, but allows moisture to escape in the opposite direction, from the foot out through the membrane. The result is breathability and a healthy foot climate. So if we should summarize the reasons why to choose winter, autumn or spring shoes with this technology:

1. Keeps feet dry and warm

2. It repels water

3. It is maximally breathable

4. Creates a healthy foot climate

TEX SHOES CARE

Emphasizing that TEX shoes need the right care to serve properly is just carrying wood into the forest. We want to keep quality shoes. In the case of this type of footwear, it is important to use a silicone-free impregnation, as silicone can clog the pores of the TEX membrane and limit a good foot climate. Choose products, waterproofing products, suitable for shoes and boots with TEX- membrane. In order for the membrane to be fully functional, it must be cleaned regularly and not allowed to get wet unnecessarily. Wet shoes need to be dried naturally. Never on the radiator or heater, it damages the TEX - and at the same time dries and degrades the leather.

The leather can be treated with beeswax spray, as it is easy to dose and maintains elasticity and great appearance. It can also revive a neutral shoe polish.

If you want to experience great TEX shoes on your winter feet, you still have a chance to buy seasonal shoes with super discounts in our e-shop. There is nothing left to wait for!
