FAIRY-TALE HISTORY OF HOME SEWN SHOES

History of Josef Seibel shoes started like a fairy tale... There was a man, a gentleman, a skilled shoemaker, a German named Carl-August Seibel. He was a shoemaker long before his first factory was established. He made shoes at home and his range was wide. Anyone who needed a good pair of shoes just knocked on his door, placed an order and expressed his or her shoemaking wishes. When the shoes were ready, he came to Seibel's house to pick them up. Seibel quickly had a good name thanks to a good-quality and detail in his work.

It was not until 1886 that he opened his first shoe manufactory in Hauenstein. This made the town a shoemaking town which gradually became known to the whole world. Today, there is a German Shoe Museum there. With expanding production, small capacities and a gradually decaying factory it was necessary to open new premises in 1907. New factory is still there and has produced Josef Seibel shoes ever since.

Production abroad started in the late 1940s´.The manufacturer´s reputation and increased demand for shoes helped the brand in reaching various parts of Europe at first. The company employed more and more people and Josef Seibel Shoes enjoyed its prosperity. The brand was given a  "The European Comfort Shoes" label.

In the 1970s´, like in other economic sectors there was a recession in manufacturing. The company tried to reduce the amount of material waste and set up the production to perform better with fewer resources. This helped the brand to raise again once the crisis had passed. In the 1980s´ additional production halls and warehouses were even built in Hauenstein. Production plants were also built in Hungary and Romania, so expansion to the rest of Europe as well as North America could follow. The company has been producing footwear already well-known for its quality and comfort.
