Berl Gantmacher, the Ukrainian immigrant who later changed his name to Bernard Gant, a 17-year-old boy who came to the USA through Rotterdam. During the days he worked in a textile company with Morris Shapiro, his business partner and during the nights he studied Pharmacy at the University. However, his sense of material and sewing prevailed and after completing his military service at the end of the Second World War Bernard could finally open his own business. Gant brand is characterized with production of T-shirts. Gant shirts found their sale at American university campuses. As the brand production gradually expanded Gant was taken over by Pyramid Sportswear in 2001. Originally it was planned to offer it to a Swedish market (today the whole concern has its central office in Stockholm), however, the fashion concept quickly got into an international level. Shoe production does not represent the key pillar of GANT production, however, it does not miss its significant individuality. „Let´s not try to be everything for everyone. We are individuals. When you think for yourself you can be tastefully different,“ Elliot, Berl´s son stated.

Gant offers shoes made of textile material and leather. The company management is absolutely clear about this: In the future they aim to manufacture products solely from natural and environmentally friendly material which are to be of a timeless design and high quality. They plan to reach these objectives as from 2022. As they claim the recycling policy has already been applied.
