Skechers not only for athletes

Skechers was born in the United States in 1992. Its designer was Robert Greenberg, who was one of the founders of the L.A. Gear. They were L.A. Gear and Nike, which dominated the sports fashion market at the time. On the other hand, they lacked a competitor who would control "street footwear", ie sports shoes but for everyday wear. This gave Greenberg with Skechers new opportunities just after he was fired by L.A.Gear.

Greenberg was a flexible person, he had already jumped over the retail. He started his career in the 60's and worked in various positions: from the sale of wigs to beauty salons, the import of branded jeans to the establishment of a roller skate shop. His first major success came after he purchased a license to place an image of the film character E.T. on the laces of their shoes. This earned him $ 3 million in 8 weeks! From this money he founded L.A.Gear. When the company became unprofitable, Greenberg's companions showed him the door and he had another opportunity to improvise.

INFORMAL STREET FASHION

The new Skechers company was originally intended to be a distribution network for Dr. Martens shoes. Within a year, however, Greenberg focused on designing, developing and marketing his own unique brand. Here he filled a gap in the market and focused on reaching young modern consumers and informal street fashion.

Skechers also brought other brands to its label, such as Cross Colors and Karl Kani. In 1993, it was decided that improving the custom label (Skechers shoes) would be more profitable. Greenberg's Skechers introduced the Chrome Dome.

Chrome Dome shoes were made to look worn and frayed (especially in the heel). It was a shoe version of torn jeans, which were very popular at the time. Thanks to their unisex appearance, Skechers appealed to both sexes and became an icon of urban shoes for "grunge" youth.
