The first appearance of ankle boots dates back to the Victorian period when the official name "Jodhpur" was used. A significant moment for ankle boots was represented by actual discovery of vulcanised rubber in 1839 by Charles Goodyear in Springfield, Massachusetts. This subsequently opened the gates of success to Queen Victoria's shoemaker, J. Sparkes- Hall who was the first to design real ankle boots in 1851. On this occasion he stated that it was the Queen Victoria who walked in them daily and thus gave the strongest proof of the value she attached to the invention.
