So simple and so popular – flip-flops and beach sandals

Can´t you wait for a moment when you finally change your shoes and sneakers for a pair of free sandals or flip-flops? What will your choice for this season be? Look around our e-shop and welcome the summer with elegant heeled flip-flops or sporty coloured beach sandals. Comfortable and informal fashion designed mainly for leisure time has been very popular for centuries.

Flip-flops had their predecessor, simple sandals, already in Ancient Egypt and later in Rome and Greece. Sandals made of a sole and straps tied around toes and ankles could not, of course, originate elsewhere than in hot climate. After Egyptians who used papyrus leaves for making sandals other nations and materials came.

Masai people of Africa made sandals out of rawhide. In India, they were made from wood. In China and Japan, rice straw was used. The leaves of the sisal plant were used to make twine for sandals in South America, while the natives of Mexico used the yucca plant. .

In the 20th century flip-flops called „zori“ were first made in Japan. Japan, the giant producer of rubber during the World War II started to produce footwear with flat sole held onto the foot by a Y-shaped strap attached to a toe in large. After capture of Japanese soldiers the Americans brought home a new trophy - the material and instructions how to produce flip-flops.

Flip-flops and beach sandals have a typical strap, a space separating the first toe from other toes. This design originates even before the Japanese inventions.

In Greek sandals, the toe strap was worn between the first and second toes, while Roman sandals had the strap between the second and third toes. These differ from the sandals worn by the Mesopotamians, with the strap between the third and fourth toes. In India, a related chappal ("toe knob") sandal was common, with no straps but a small knob sitting between the first and second toes.

Wear light and summer colours

As soon as flip-flops reached USA in the 1950s their change and re-design became. Designers presented flip-flops in various colours and a new fashion trend couldn´t get stopped at all. Maximum comfort and casualness of flip-flops was first connected with the Californian beach style. Flip-flops were promoted as an informal fashion trend usually worn with shorts, swimsuit or summer dresses. Despite many attempts in wearing flip-flops at formal occasions this has never happened. Even though the models of flip-flops are decent and stylish it still is an informal footwear connected with summer leisure activities.

Every summer lover may find her or his favourite piece at Robel.shoes. Besides beach flip-flops ladies may choose among heeled or wedged sandals, sandals without separate toes, with full toe.. According to the style the upper is made of synthetic, textile or leather material. The real summer may not start without new sandals or flip-flops!
