Women's sandals - wedge
Sandals have even survived the Romans
History of sandals is well-founded and gets back to ancient Romans who used this type of footwear when conquering continents. The name is derived from the Greek word sandálion and as far as footwear is concerned sandals represent its oldest form. Sandals of various types were very popular among ancient Greeks or Romans and even Egyptian Pharaohs. Most probably thanks to their simplicity sandals have their firm and honoured place worldwide. Basically they consist of a sole held to the wearer's foot by straps going over the instep and around the ankle. The feet are provided stability and protection during hot summer days. Of course we love sandals also because they are worn barefoot and our feet get the chance to enjoy fresh air and sunshine, an experience they do not have during other seasons.
Fashion trends from the classic to extravagance
The times when this type of footwear presented a sloppy style with hardly impressive design have gone. The designers have put much effort and let their creativity flow. Thanks to it various designs of sandals have been made. We can say that sandals still keep up with the latest fashion and accompany us in any occasion.
Women´s sandals are classified according to their look and purpose as well as type of sole and fastening. If we concentrate on the sole we know the original version of sandals was specific with thin soles without any heels. Only much later designs of sandals on platform or higher heel appeared. Wedged sandals are also becoming more popular.
Sandals may come with laces, so called „Roman-style“, or may have a zip at their back in so called heel part which is quite invisible. This style may be used in cases when we are carried away with complicated straps, but real fastening would be above our capabilities. The most common fastening system of women´s sandals, the strap one, is an elegant, more practical and very popular overall. There are also sandals with rubbers which fasten the foot very well and adapt to the shape of our sole as well as provide for complete comfort. The fantasy has no limits and thanks to ingredients in form of bright colours, eye-catching application and patters with a hint of extravagance or pure elegance there are various types of women´s sandals: open toe sandals, leather, textile or rubber sandals, elegant black or bright colour ones, simple classic sandals or extravagant ones with sparkling stones and other features.
