From plimsolls to sneakers
The history of sneakers began to be written somewhere around year 1860. Among the very first names of sneakers we include the term "plimsolls" after its creator Samuel Plimsoll. These first sneakers didn't really have much in common with sneakers. They were all rubber, and because they didn't distinguish between the right or left foot, honestly, they were uncomfortable. In 1887, the name "plimsolls" was replaced by the new term "sneakers". This word is originally derived from the verb "to steal". This marking of the sneakers was exact, because thanks to the rubber sole, the sneakers did not make any sound while walking.
Imagine that sneakers were worn by prisoners at the time. Around 1892, sneakers were hit by a more comfortable wave because they got a new look. The rubber sole remained with them, but their upper part got a new material dimension - textile. This luck came thanks to the U. S. Rubber Company. In 1917, under the name of this company, another sneaker novelty came on the market, children's sneakers called "keds". Later, adults also adopted this type of sneakers and the gates of the tennis courts opened up to them. And the verbal derivation probably also created "tennis shoes".
