The Skechers company was born in the USA in 1992. Its creator is Robert Greenberg, who was once one of the founders of the athletic brand L.A Gear. It was just L.A. Gear and Nike, which dominated the sports fashion market at the time. On the other hand, they lacked a competitor who would dominate "street footwear", i.e. footwear with a sporty spirit but for everyday wear. This gave Greenberg and Skechers new opportunities just after being fired from L.A.Gear.
The new Skechers company was originally supposed to be a distribution network for Dr. Martens. But within a year, Greenberg was focusing on designing, developing and marketing his own unique brand. Here he filled a hole in the market and focused on reaching young modern consumers and informal street fashion.
